Two-hander from Finland wins his second career PBA title, first major and $50,000

It was the second career PBA title and his first "major" title after his victory in the 2010 PBA GEICO Shark Championship for the two-hander, who earned the $50,000 top prize. Shafer received $25,000 for second place.

201112PBASeanRash.jpg201112PBAJasonBelmonte.jpgPalermaa, Shafer, Sean Rash (left), Montgomery, Ill. and Jason Belmonte (right), Australia survived three eliminator rounds in their respective divisions to advanced to the championship round in the same format.

Rash, who dominated the World Championship qualifying and advanced to his fifth consecutive championship round in this year's World Series of Bowling, led the first round with 245 and was followed by Shafer with 236, while the two international players were forced into a one-ball roll-off after a 203-202 tie.

Palermaa ousted Belmonte, 10-6. The Aussie, who has won his career titles No. 2 and 3 in Friday's TV finals, set a highlight in the Mike Aulby Division by rolling a 300 game in Eliminator Round Two. Belmonte finished in fourth place, worth $10,000.

201112PBA01StuartWilliams.jpg201112PBA03DominicBarrett.jpgRash, who eliminated Pete Weber in the Johnny Petraglia Division final, was sidelined in the next round, finishing third for $13,000.

With Palermaa's victory in the championship match, the international players have won all five PBA titles in the WSOB so far. Joining Palermaa on the winner's list are Belmonte (2) and England's Stuart Williams (left) and Dominic Barrett (right).

The top 16 in the PBA World Championship qualifying including six international players - Palermaa, Belmonte, Barrett, Williams, Ildemaro Ruiz, Venezuela and Andres Gomez, Colombia - advanced to a series of four divisional elimination rounds in determining the PBA World Championship winner.

In each divisional final, named in honor of past PBA World Champions, four players bowled one game with the lowest-scoring player eliminated.

The three surviving players bowled a second game, again eliminating the low score. The two survivors then bowled a game to decide who advanced to the PBA World Championship finals which followed the same format.

All five PBA World Championship telecasts will air on ESPN on five consecutive Sundays except Christmas Day (Dec. 11, 18, Jan. 1, 8 and 15) at 1 p.m. ET.

2011 PBA World Series of Bowling concludes on Sunday with the Lumber Liquidators Mark Roth-Marshall Holman PBA Doubles preliminary round at 10 a.m., doubles finals at noon, Carmen Salvino Classic finals at 3:30 p.m. and the Pepsi PBA Elite Players Championship at 5:30 p.m.
